iPhone 18 Pro: Everything We Know So Far About Apple’s Next Powerhouse

With the amount of excitement happening right now in the world of technology, it is easy to see that we are officially entering the "pre-launch period" for the iPhone 18 Pro, and based on the latest leak regarding it, this launch will likely be one of Apple's most aggressive upgrades yet.

From a massive shift in how phones are normally released to a "game-changing" advancement in the camera area of the phone, here's everything we know about the iPhone 18 Pro Series.

The Launch Timeline: A Story of Two Seasons

Let's first look at the timeline. We normally find out about all new iPhones in September, but this year there may be more changes to that schedule.

There are numerous reports of "staggered releases" this year, with the "heavy-hitters" of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max being released around September 9 (with products available in the stores on September 18). Many have speculated whether the "wildcard" (the iPhone Ultra) will also come out this September (it is the first foldable iPhone).

Unfortunately, if you are waiting for the standard iPhone 18 or 18 Plus, it looks like you might have to wait even longer. Many leaks indicate that they will most likely not be released until spring 2027.

Will the Price of Apple Products Help You Save Money?

In a surprising turn of events, Apple will be taking on the increased costs associated with the manufacturing process instead of passing them along.

Anticipated Launch Price: $1,099 (US) / ₹1,34,900 (India).

The Reasoning: After the previous generation saw Price Increase, Apple is attempting to stabilize prices to continue its momentum in the higher priced market.

Design and Display – Goodbye “Island”?

The overall design of the new iPhones is relatively the same, but the changes on the front of the device are where it all comes together.

1. Smaller Dynamic Island

The pill-shaped (Dynamic Island) cut-out has been around for a little while now, but it’s said that the iPhone 18 Pro will shrink this to about 35% smaller than what currently exists. Some say that Apple will place the Face ID sensors under the display so that there’s only a small hole for the front-facing camera.

2. A  Brighter Reality

The iPhone 18 series will still be offered in the same 6.3” & 6.9” sizes; however, the brightness level will get much brighter. This means there will be peak brightness of over 3000 nits when used outside, allowing you to see clearly even in the brightest midday sun!

3. New Colours

Apple will be moving away from the "Cosmic Orange" of last year. The main colour you can expect to see will be Dark Cherry (a deep purplish-red). Other expected colours include: Light Blue, Dark Grey, Silver, and Coffee Brown (still in testing).

The Camera: A Mechanical Revolution

First off, this will be Apple's very first phone with a variable aperture system on the main lens.

Why is this important? Similar to professional cameras that use interchangeable lenses, the camera will be able to open and close its "iris." This will allow you to control how much light enters the camera and create a more natural background blur (bokeh), which does not rely on software for blurring. Additionally, you will be able to take sharper pictures in low-light conditions.

Some other features of the camera include:

Triple 48MP Setup: Each of the three rear lenses (wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto) will deliver 48-megapixel images.

24MP Selfie Camera: The selfie camera will have a resolution increase from 18MP to 24MP, giving you crisper images when using the camera to make video calls.

Samsung Stacked Sensors: The new sensors in the camera will incorporate a three-layer design that reduces noise and increases dynamic range.

The iPhone 18 Pro will be introduced with the A20 Pro chip, which is made using a 2nm production method and will be the first to use this technique.

With this chip, the speed of how the phone's processor can run applications will increase over the A19 chip by 15%. Thus, this will improve multi-tasking and gaming performance.

The new chip will also be more efficient than the A19 chip, so it will use less energy during operation. This should result in very long battery life from the A20 Pro chip when paired with the Pro Max model of the iPhone 18 that is rumored to have a 5,100mAh battery.

The amount of RAM in the new phone will also be increased to 12GB to accommodate future AI capabilities that will be introduced with the launch of the iPhone 18.
