Pilibhit is Roaring – Tiger Populations Are Surging!
Hello there! For everyone involved in the world of nature, here's the interesting story of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) in UP. They have recently received international status as a tiger hub due to the explosion in tiger populations! It’s a huge accomplishment for the tremendous efforts of conservationists in India and illustrates how well conservation techniques have worked when implemented appropriately!
Located on the border of India and Nepal, the PTR is over 700 square km of undisturbed grasslands, forests, and wetlands. Developed and once hidden away, it is now the most significant place in India to see tigers.
What’s the reason for all the excitement?
Tigers Abundant: In 2014, there were only 21 tigers. Now, however, a new census shows approximately 70 striped wonders living within the walls of PTR, which amounts to an increase of an astonishing 233%. Increased evidence suggests that the latest advances in anti-poaching technology and significant improvements in habitat management played a major role.
International Recognition: Recently, PTR received the TX2 Award from the WWF and Global Tiger Forum. PTR was one of 14 reserves worldwide to receive this award for doubling their tiger populations since 2010, with India being the holder of seven of these awards!
How Did They Achieve This?
Technology = Success: Utilizing a combination of camera traps, drones, and GPS collars, officials can accurately track both poachers and tigers within the reserve.
Habitat Improvements: The relocation of human populations living near/within the PTR has led to the successful establishment of many different types of animal populations.
